The
genre of music known as disco made its inception into the world around the
1970s. For the disco era, I’m choosing Michael Jackson and his worldwide
popularity for music. Not only was his choreography spot on, but his 15-minute long
mini-movie, Thriller, which launched on MTV was a music and cinematic
experience mixed into one that no one had even seen before let alone his
choreography.
The
genre of music called dubstep is a genre of music that hasn’t been around for
too, too long. When I think of dubstep, the first name to come to my head is
that of Skrillex. Sonny John Moore or Skrillex, which was his stage name, rose
to fame as a solo artist by producing music using electronic sounds developed
by using synthesizers to create the unique type of music know today as dubstep.
Punk
music started to become popular at around the same time as disco music. One
famous punk band to take note of is Green Day which consists of three musicians:
Billie Joe Armstrong the singer and lead guitarist, Tre Cool the drummer, and
Mike Dirnt the bass. Green Day rose to fame with the release of their successful
1992 album called Kerplunk as well as
using their infectious pop-punk sound of the instruments and vocals to win over
the hearts of several.
When
I hear the nineties, I always think of The Red Hot Chili Peppers and their rise
to fame. The Red Hot Chili Peppers became a band around 1983. Despite some unfortunate
events in the start of their career, along with the addition of some new band
members, it was the funk, rap, alternative, and rock styles of their music they
maintained combined with an exquisite flow to Kiedis’ lyricism that made their
career take off and get them where they are today.
Although
the dubstep and electronic music genres are somewhat similar, electronic music,
in my opinion, is less extreme than that of dubstep. The electronic music group
known as Daft Punk immediately became widely popular in 1997 with the release
of their debut album. The way they became popular was through their distinct
sound, their inescapable hits, and their catchy music videos produced by auteur
directors, some who later on to found success in the film industry.
